Very limited usefulness
I have recently tried Resound and Widex brand hearing aids, and their apps are vastly superior and give much more control to the patient tailoring the hearing aids preferences. For some reason Oticon does not let the patient make choices as far as equalization and customization of the various settings. Even my audiologist has very little choice over what I am able to control. So almost any changes that I want to make in the four or five presets can only be done by making an appointment with my audiologist. This is a waste of the audiologist’s time and the my time. Oticon should put the decisions of what and to what degree the patient can adjust in the hands of the audiologist who knows the patient. Some patients require very basic controls, but other patients, such as myself, have a great deal of knowledge of equalization and other electronic settings. It is very frustrating and very well may be a dealbreaker as to whether I go with Oticon or another brand of hearing aids. Even if the hardware is superior, the software at this point is very inferior.
3D Touch change? Additional information.
I have dropped my review to 1 Star and would give a zero star if I could. Your reply to my last comment was, 'Thank you for your comment! Nothing has changed with this functionality. We recommend to remove the application completely from the iPhone and install it again from the App Store. Best Regards, Laura, Oticon'
Laura, you are wrong! It has changed and you even state that to another person's review. I didn’t have 3D Touch until I purchased my newest iPhone in November. The 3D Touch worked with all my programs.. they were all named in my app as General, P2 (sound in noise?), T-coil, and TV. THERE WERE 4 TOTAL. And it worked perfect on my new phone for a few weeks! Then the app updated and poof.. gone! All those programs disappeared on my 3D Touch options! The named programs affected the 3D Touch options. Now, only one program has a name; and that is one program I don’t use! It is iPhone mic. I want all my program names back! You tell another person that WE don’t have the ability to name them anymore.. why did you change that? Now I am going to have to go out of my way for a 45 minute drive and hope my audiologist will be able to help me out. This is such an inconvenience and bad customer service.
Signed.. A Dissatisfied Customer!
Developer Response,
Hi,
I am very sorry for the misunderstanding.
Functionality of custom program names in Oticon ON app ver. 1.8 was dropped because of new Apple MFI program requirements. Expected behaviour is that all custom program names are reset to their default names. Only way to set the custom names for the programs is during fitting proces in Genie. I can only suggest visiting the Audiologist in order to perform the fitting proces of the Hearing Aids again. Sorry for the inconvenience!
Best wishes,
Laura, Oticon
Don’t laugh!
My TruHearing health plan “benefits” gave me only one choice for hearing aids — the Oticon brand, basic model only. Which means I still spent thousands of dollars. The hearing devices are passable but with fewer possible programs than my 7-year old Unitrons. At least the Unitrons gave me directional settings which are completely unavailable with Oticon. I downloaded the OticonOn app to my iPhone. I appreciate that Bluetooth technology allows phone calls to be heard directly through my hearing aids.
HOWEVER, the phone app cuts out if I laugh, cough, sneeze, or jingle a set of keys. Any other sudden loud noise in the environment causes similar effect. The result is SILENCE where the other person can hear me but I can’t hear them. If they’re talking, I have to quickly interrupt them and explain the situation, then wait for the app to reset itself. Sometimes the app only cuts out on one hearing aid rather than both. If the app doesn’t reset itself, I have to open and close the battery doors — which is awkward while holding the phone and impossible if using hands free in my car.
This problem occurs even with a fully charged phone and fresh batteries. It’s definitely a glitch in the app because my hearing aids don’t randomly cut out in any situation except phone calls.
